The ongoing safety of our travellers is our top priority. Our style of travel is naturally already adhering to social distancing guidelines. However, our travellers will be interested in the policies adopted by our accommodation providers, boat operators and the government health policies. 

Individual countries, in conjunction with health authorities, have set policies based on ensuring the safety of travellers. Our partners will be strictly adhering to these policies and in many instances going beyond to provide hygienic and safe environments for our travellers.

Our Covid-19 Vaccination Policy FAQs

From 1 December 2022, we do not require our travellers to be vaccinated against COVID-19, however we recommend that you are vaccinated.

Some of our partners may require that you submit a negative test before participating on the tours.

It is the duty of travellers to check any requirements which need to be fulfilled before travel, which includes transit destinations, on the destination country’s government websites.

Within all the risk mitigation strategies, it remains that COVID-19 is extremely contagious and there is a risk of exposure anywhere where people encounter one another which cannot be removed.

Acceptance of the inherent risk of travel is voluntarily assumed by you when you when join our trips, though you should rest assured we have elevated our protocols with a heightened awareness of this new paradigm.

International Travel Requirements

Important information for Australian Citizens travelling overseas

Travelling overseas has an extra layer of complexity which requires more planning than in the past. 

We strongly recommend you review the information provided at www.smartraveller.gov.au during your planning process and the relevant airline website to understand the exact requirements particular to your holiday. 

Upon booking, our Pre-Departure notes will also provide you with information specific to your destination. 

Below is a Q&A that may also assist with your planning. We are here to help so please get in touch if you have any further questions.

We will do our best to update you on any changes which are relevant to your trip but also encourage you to continue to review the information provided by DFAT through the Smart Traveller website as well as consulting your transit and destination countries government websites for their requirements.

The Australian Government advises ‘reconsider your need to travel’ for unvaccinated persons.

You will need to obtain an International COVID-19 vaccination certificate (ICVC). 

You can get an ICVC through the MyGov portal (Medicare). 

The ICVC is needed at check-in when leaving and returning to Australia. It may also be used in your destination country to provide proof of vaccination. This will depend on your destination country’s recognition of your ICVC.

If you contract COVID-19 during your trip arrangements with us, our local team will assist in any way possible. 

This may include sourcing suitable accommodation to isolate in and checking on your medical welfare. 

In respect of any associated costs, it is imperative that prior to travel, you obtain a suitable travel insurance policy to ensure you are as well covered as possible. Ask your consultant for recommendations. 

Access to your own emergency funds is advisable for any overseas trip in case of unexpected expenses. 

If you or someone in your travelling party contract COVID-19 before or after your arrangements with us, you will need to isolate immediately and contact the local health authority on what to do. 

You can also contact the nearest Australian Embassy. If you need medical assistance, you should contact local health authorities. 

In either scenario, it is likely that you will need to isolate for 7-14 days depending on the regulations of the country you are in.

As a traveller, we recommend you also take your own precautions at this time including:

    • ensuring you are fully vaccinated prior to travel, 
    • using a face mask when social distancing is difficult, 
    • regular handwashing of at least 30 seconds, 
    • avoiding touching your face and 
    • ensuring that you respect social distancing requirements.
